Hi!
My name is Culley Byham, and I am the 4-12 orchestra director in Watertown. I am in my ninth year of teaching orchestra and my fourth year of teaching in Watertown specifically. Prior to teaching in Watertown, I taught 6-8th-grade orchestra in South Carolina for five years.
I grew up in central Pennsylvania and began playing the viola through my school program when I was in the third grade. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and so when the time came to apply to colleges I decided to apply as a Music Education major. I ended up at Penn State, University Park, and spent the next four years studying and practicing all of the string instruments to prepare for teaching orchestra.
Throughout my career as a teacher I've has also performed as a professional musician with several chamber ensembles, symphony orchestras, and as a freelance musician for weddings, church services, and holiday programs. I am currently a member of the Brookline Symphony Orchestra in Brookline, MA as well as the Rivers Symphony Orchestra in Weston, MA.
I truly enjoy teaching such a wide range of students. It is a rare gift to be able to see a program from bottom to top and work with students of all levels. Watertown has been such a great place to be so far, and I'm so excited to see where the future takes us!
