As musicians ourselves it’s relevant and important to know what has influenced the music we play and listen to. Most music is written for a purpose and describes history without words. Along with art and literature, music is the way in which we pass down our stories and legacies and help them to live on through the decades and centuries. Music is history, alive, speaking a language that everyone can understand.
Each quarter you will be turning in four listening journals. A template and example for what a listening journal should look like are linked with the listening journal list (linked on the big red button to the left). You can make a copy of this list to edit as you go. You should follow along with the scores as often as possible. Many of these pieces are now in the public domain and can be found on IMSLP.ORG. For selections with multiple movements, you should select a movement listed or, if no specific movement is listed, select one of your own choosing.
Playing Tests
You can submit playing tests directly on Google Classroom or through FlipGrid. See directions below. Codes are on the home page.
Playing tests must be submitted on time to receive full credit. They will be docked five points per day, for five days, after which they will not be considered for grading.
